The Story
Bourbon coffee has played a central role in the history of coffee production in El Salvador since the late 19th century, right when the country became one of Central America's most important coffee exporters. The variety adapted well to the nation's volcanic soils and mountainous terrain, helping to establish El Salvador's reputation for high-quality Arabica coffee.
Although many farms later introduced other cultivars, Bourbon remains valued by specialty producers for its exceptional cup quality and sweetness. Today, many high-altitude farms continue cultivating Bourbon and Bourbon-derived varieties such as Pacas, preserving an important legacy within the global specialty coffee sector.
